ONE DAY@ THE RTO

I was there bcoz I was tooooooo lazy to take a Xerox.I was there at the RTO to get my learner’s license.Not bcoz I neva had one but bcoz I had lost my previous one.I had a lot of belief in myself that I would never possibly lose anything in my possession but I remember my frns  tellin me abt the license..dei Xerox eduthu vecheko daa.. to b on the safe side….but I never really bothered….n then when I wanted to go for my license I lost my learners!!
It was a pathetic feelin coz I had previously ridiculed my own friend for losing his learners…Newayz I ain’t typin this to talk abt my trip to the RTO but the harrowing experiences tht ppl like u n me go thru at govt offices n to get  my friends views on corruption…n here begins one day@the RTO…

If I remember the date correctly it was on 29th dec…had jus gotten up from bed abt 15 mins ago…heard a distant familiar hum of a scooter…was sippin on my cup of coffee when I suddenly  realized that I had planned to go to the RTO that day!!
I heard a friendly voice call out from my gate…dei hari come quickly!!
OMG!!had to hurry..esp coz m know to keep up my words n always b on time…
So I quickly washed mon visage n left..it was December n to travel in the morning hours with chill winds blowing against us was testing in itself..did’nt know that the worse was yet to come….

At the RTO everthing started of quite well…excepting for the fact that I was not able to renew my lost learners..they said ,I  needed to tell them the 10 digit code number that was present in my lost license..now how do u expect me to know that?? I wanted to ask…nevertheless losing it was my mistake..accepted.I filled in the forms..yes the standard set n was waitin in the queue…havin paid the amount we were to go and meet the inspector in another room who would give us the learners..Nothin new to us….was expectin it to get over pretty soon….


At the inspectors room I was quite annoyed by the presence of brokers they seemed to hav no queues n weren’t asked 4 anthyin wat so ever…the money did the talking .. I guess... people with lotz of money n no brains approached  de brokers to get things done quickly…equivalent of speed post at RTO probably…was our turn next..two of my friends who had come with me got their learners…then came my turn…the inse said “thambi enna pa formals le varaleya” …excuse me..hav I come for an interview??..
Go and change ur dress n then come…he said coolly..
DEI....hav come this distance da!!..u want me to go back n change my clothes..jackass give me my learners now da…was wat I wanted to say…but due to social compulsions tried to coax him..saar plz only this time saar….but the ass kept repeating the same thing…
So I took my frns scooter..shooted home n returned to the RTO..only to find the inspector telling me,, sorry pa time’s up 4 2day..come tomorrow…if only I had the indecency to foul mouth ppl in public…che…I felt sunk….
Oh god shld I come this distance again tomorrow??..bloody hell!!!
Could have just bribed tht guy thru the broker I thought..but my consciousness would not let me…
Things had to go on..took in my stride..went the next day n got my license…the inspector smirked…I felt powerless..cant anything b done abt this…accepted that it was my mistake to have come in informals but I should’nt hav been humiliated like this…
Terrific start to the new year I thought…returned home,switched on my television…headlines today…government servants caught on video accepting bribes…..perhaps I thought....this is the best way things get done in India…
